We believe Modern Brawl to be a way for players familiar with Commander to try their hand at a 1-v-1 competitive format with more familiarity and less expense than other competitive formats like Modern, Standard, and Legacy. The card pool has been specifically chosen to increase access compared to Competitive Commander, Legacy, and Modern, while keeping the power level of the format relatively high to create dynamic and engaging gameplay.
Modern Brawl has a custom banned list. This list has been carefully constructed to maximize enjoyable competitive gameplay and will continue to be managed in a way to promote such experiences. If cards that are banned in Modern are not listed here and are included in a Modern legal set, they are legal in the format.
Banned as Commander (These cards can be played in your deck but cannot be your Commander):
Banned Cards:
Watch List (This serves as a precursor to a possible ban in the event of significant overrepresentation in the format. These cards are currently legal in the format):
All sets currently legal for the Modern format are legal to play in Modern Brawl. Modern does not include sets printed before 8th Edition, Commander sets, Reprint sets (ex. Commander Masters, Double Masters), Eternal Legal sets, or reprint sheets of Standard sets. If a card is in one of these reprint products and has also been printed in a Modern legal set, it is legal in the format. Cards do not rotate out of Modern Brawl.
